Carjacking syndicate busted

Sentul police believe they have busted a carjacking syndicate with the arrest of two syndicate members in Kepong on Saturday after a high speed car chase.

Sentul Police Chief ACP Zakaria Pagan said two of three suspects in their 30s, were detained at 10.30pm after their Toyota Camry car rammed into another car during a high speed chase.

Zakaria said the police were tracking down the Toyota Camry car that was reported stolen in Padang Balang, Setapak last Monday.

"Police spotted the car along Jalan Kepong and heading to Selayang and gave chase. In their haste to escape from the police, the car knocked into a Proton Wira at the Kompleks Desa Kepong traffic light.

"The first suspect was trapped inside the car and the second suspect collided with a police car while escaping and broke his leg but a third suspect managed to escape," he told reporters on Sunday.

Zakaria said police found a parang in the Toyota Camry, believed to have been used for their carjacking activities, while both the suspects had previous criminal records.

He said police had launched a man hunt to track down the remaining members of the syndicate.
